Daggett announces plans for first live event next spring.
Jim Daggett is co-founder and executive director of the Insurance Technology Association and serves as publisher of ITA Pro magazine. Periodically, he checks in with the ITA membership through the magazine to inform them of the direction the ITA plans to take and how ITA members can benefit from those plans. This month, he answers questions about ITA LIVE, the organization’s inaugural conference, which will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in April of 2015.
Why is the ITA hosting a live event?
DAGGETT: The sharing knowledge and network opportunities are at the core of the ITA’s mission statement. Even with all of the advancements in technology and social media, we strongly believe the most valuable connections are those made in person. We call our event ITA LIVE and we believe there always will be a place for live event gatherings and that personal relationship will always supersede electronic connections.
Can you give some specifics on the dates and location of the conference?
DAGGETT: The ITA LIVE Conference will be hosted at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa from April 12 - 14, 2015. To get updates on session details, speakers, and special offers, you need to be a member of the ITA. Membership is free and can be done through a visit to www.itapro.org/membership . We are excited to host our inaugural event at this venue; it is easy to get to and provides excellent amenities for an outstanding business event.
What will make this event different and valuable for the insurance IT leaders who attend?
DAGGETT: ITA LIVE is structured much differently than the typical trade show and conference. There will not be an exhibit hall and there will be a limited number of sponsors at this event. The objective is to have an event that is weighted with more insurance attendees than technology companies. There will be plenty of time to network and meet with the sponsors and peers throughout the event. Our objective is to craft a business event environment that is not harried and much more conducive to learning and making meaningful connections.
What are some of the sessions you have planned?
DAGGETT: We will cover topics and trends that span across all lines of business including security, emerging technologies, analytics, mobility, the IT/business relationship, and more. We want to provide our attendees with real-world insights and situations, ITA LIVE attendees will be able to gain knowledge from our event that they cannot get access to elsewhere. For instance, the session around security will involve knowledge sharing around planned and ethical security breach attempts into the security systems of 10 volunteer carriers, whose identity will remain anonymous.
How is this event part of the overall ITA mission that you envisioned when you formed the ITA last fall?
DAGGETT: Part of the ITA mission is to provide our members with opportunities to network and collaborate. What better way to do this than at an annual gathering. We are keen on listening to members of our industry on what they feel is valuable. All of the session topics and even the structure of the agenda have been approved by the ITA Advisory Board. If our board finds value in what we are doing we are certain their peers also will find value in our offerings.
What sort of progress has the ITA made in its initial year of operation and what more can we expect from the ITA?
DAGGETT: We want to raise awareness around the support the ITA provides to the insurance technology community and lay down a strong foundation of informational resources, which we feel we have successfully completed with the launch of ITA Pro Magazine, the ITA Pro Weekly e-newsletter, and now the ITA LIVE Conference. On the horizon, we look to deliver exclusive informational resources that can provide insurers with tremendous value and help them to make better informed decisions regarding the technology challenges they face with their organization.

The goal of the Insurance Technology Association is to provide members with opportunities to collaborate, educate, network, share, and use knowledge related to insurance technology.
